Steve's Abstract Surrealism

I have always been very interested in surrealism. I have painted several surrealistic oil paintings, that you can see and read about below. I decided to take surrealism a step further, and create this surrealistic website design as to display my artwork.

The banner above started out as just another abstract background created in photoshop. But if you noticed when you loaded this page, or if you roll your mouse over the banner, it will starts to ripple like water. I found this to be a very surrealistic effect. I can imagine dreaming about solid objects that ripple like water. And that's what surrealism is really about, fusing the conscious and unconscious worlds. Trying to realize something in reality, that has only been realized before in your dreams.

Bringing dream like imagery into the conscious world is my goal when I create surrealistic artwork. When I was working on this surrealistic painting, last year, on more than one occasion I woke up out of a cold sleep to go paint.

The painting above is titled Genesis and was on display at the Platt Gala. I also won first prize in the Giuseppe Arcimboldo Style Fine Art Contest at the Gala. The Weapon Woman , my winning entry, was inspired by Marilyn Monroe in one of her classic poses.

All the pictures I have of the painting above have a bad glare from the flash, and are out of of focus. So I got creative and used photoshop to transform the glare into a ring of fire.
That's pretty surreal, right?
